Rosh Hashanah Braised Brisket

A tender and delicious brisket, delicately braised in red wine, honey, and a few other simple ingredients. This is an easy one for your Rosh Hashanah menu!



  • 3 lb brisket or other roast
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 cup red wine (dry)
  • 2 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp paprika


Heat olive oil in a large pot. Add the onion, along with a pinch of salt and pepper, and saut̩ until soft and translucent, about 7 minutes. Add the red wine and deglaze the pan. Add the crushed tomatoes, honey and paprika. Bring to a simmer, add the meat and cover. Continue cooking at a simmer until the meat is fork tender, about 2 1/2 Р3 hours.
