Tuesday Tacos

Any night can be taco night with this easy and flavorful spice mix. Skip the prepackaged mixes that are loaded with salt and MSG and whip this up in a pinch. You can even make a batch ahead of time and keep it in your spice cabinet for taco night! When ready to prepare, it will just take a few minutes to cook the beef (or substitute) and arrange some toppings.

It’s a fun and engaging dinner when you have a build your own taco bar. Get creative by serving your favorite toppings. I like to offer a few varying toppings such as shredded red cabbage, sliced avocado, fresh tomato-garlic salad, sautéed onions and peppers, black beans, and corn. For spice enthusiasts, it’s also nice to have diced jalapeños on deck.


Ingredients for Spice Mix

For use with 1-1.5 lb of ground beef.

  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 12 tsp garlic powder
  • 12 tsp onion powder
  • 14 tsp ground black pepper
  • 14 tsp dried oregano
  • 18 tsp cayenne

Ingredients for Taco Meat

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 – 1.5 lb. ground beef
  • Taco Tuesday spice mix (above)


To create the spice mix, simply combine all the ingredients. Keep in a sealed jar until ready to use.

To cook the taco meat, heat oil in a large pan, add the ground beef and cook until completely browned, breaking it up into smaller bits. Drain most of the excess liquid. Add the spice mix and stir until well incorporated, about 1-2 minutes.

Serve with tacos and your favorite toppings.
