Steak Mushrooms

I adore the umami (savory) taste of mushrooms. I basically put them in everything I can. But they happen to go extraordinarily well with steak. If steak is on your menu for the night, and you have mushrooms on hand, try this out.

Tip: If you are cooking the steak in a pan and/or oven, first cook the steak, then transfer the steak to a plate or serving dish, retaining the juices in the pan. Then use the same pan with the steak juices for this recipe.

If you are grilling the steak, or want delicious mushrooms as an accompaniment to chicken, fish or another dish, use olive oil to cook the mushrooms. The soy sauce provides great flavor to the already rich tasting mushrooms.


  • 2 lb boxes baby bella mushrooms
  • Steak juice or 4 tbsp olive oil
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of pepper
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce


Cut medium and large sized mushrooms into quarters, and small mushrooms into halves. Heat steak juice or olive oil in a sauté pan. Add the mushrooms, along with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes, staring frequently, until mushrooms and softened and brown. Add the soy sauce, stir to incorporate, and cook an additional minute.

Pour mushrooms over steak and serve.
